Overview of the International Adoption Home Study Process
First, it is important to note that you must ask your adoption agency if the social worker you wish to use for your homestudy is on their "approved list of Louisiana social workers". Some of the social workers listed above may not be on their list.
During the home study process, your social worker will meet with your and your spouse jointly and individually to gather information and documents in the following areas: marital history, background of adoptive parents, reasons for adoption, child care plans, other members of the household, employment, education, finances, religion, cultural diversity, extended family, home and neighborhood.
Copies of the following documents will be needed:
marriage license, birth certificates, divorce decree (if applicable), verification of health insurance, verification of employment, most recent income tax return, physical examination/health report (Examination forms will be provided by your social worker.)
A Criminal Investigative Report (State Police Report) and Child Abuse and Neglect Registry Check are need as part of the routine home study process.
A minimum of five references will also be needed for the home study. Consider choosing people who know both you and your spouse, have seen you interact with children and/or know you over time.
